Abu Saleh

Founding Chairman
Unimech Limited was founded by Abu Saleh in 1972, soon after the Liberation War. Mr Saleh was a visionary who foresaw the immense scope that lay in the technological and infrastructural fields, an imminent development to follow after the birth of a country.

He was a meticulous businessman of stellar repute, both within the workplace and elsewhere, with a persona considered to be the epitome of a self-made man who has known the hardships of starting his own business; that too in a thriving market of the 1970s, in an industry governed by bureaucracy, lobbying and technological know-how.

He exuded charm, wit and a warmth that attracted not only well-wishers, but also key business allies who went on to become lifelong friends of the Saleh family. A secluded gentleman, his close knit of friends knew him well; while others admired the light he radiated from afar.

Beyond UNIMECH, his philanthropy continues to be known to all in the vicinity of his family estate in Gazipur. He has been known to provide for the locals – primarily a Hindu community – ever since he bought his first acre of land in the area in the late 1980s; employing them to cultivate crops, ensuring the education of their children through a small schooling setup, distributing warm clothes every winter, hosting them during every holiday – Hindu / Muslim or otherwise, and most importantly, investing in the infrastructural development of the locality through established roads, electricity and gas lines.

He held a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Dhaka. A doting father and loving partner, he otherwise whiled his free time either at the disposal of his mighty pen or in the pages of a good book.

He is remembered fondly today amongst his loved ones as a phenomenal man, the likes of which would never walk again. His children, forever in awe and blind dedication, continue a lifelong mission to make his legacy proud.
